When we are throwing a stone upwards, then is it a negative work or a positive one?

Do we state the work done to be negative or positive with respect to the force applied?

Dear Student,

when we are throwing a stone upwards, then work done is negative.because in this case, the force of gravity is acting in the downward direction but the displacement of the stone is in upward direction.

we know,

if the force has a component in the same direction as displacement of the object, then the force is doing positive work and is the force has a component in the different direction as displacement of the object, then the force is doing negative work.

so,we state the work done to be positive or negative with respect to the force applied.
