Dear student,

The seed coats breaks when the seed is provided with proper conditions of oxygen, water and proper temperature in order to help seed to germinate. These oxygen and water are the taken by the seed coat resulting in the enlargement of the embryo's cells and ultimately the seed coat breaks.
Thus oxygen, water and proper temperature act as a source of energy for the seed at stage 1. Before the breakage of seed coat the seed gets its energy from the stored energy reserves in the form of endosperm.

Thanks and regards.
